Terms.
The general terms for every Fat Genie service, with a schedule for each service.
This version has been replaced. Read the current version.
Part A: general terms
A1. Who we are and how these terms work
Fat Genie is a trading name of The Better Growth Company Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12585000). Registered office: Apartment 1107 9 Churchyard Row, London, England, SE11 4FF. Our email is info@fatgenie.co.uk. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean The Better Growth Company Ltd trading as Fat Genie.
These terms have two parts. Part A applies to every Fat Genie service. Part B has a schedule for each service. When you use a service, Part A and that service’s schedule both apply. If they conflict, the schedule wins for that service.
You accept these terms when you create an account, buy a paid service or use a service. If you do not agree to them, do not use our services.
The price, renewal, cancellation and refund information you are shown before you buy anything forms part of your contract.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that cannot be excluded or limited.
A2. Accounts
Accounts are for people aged 18 or over, unless a schedule says otherwise. Public information pages can be used without an account.
You must give accurate account details, keep your sign-in details secure and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens through your account, unless it results from a security failure that is our fault. You must not use or try to get into anyone else’s account.
A3. Your content and information about other people
You keep whatever rights you have in what you add to a service. You allow us to host, copy, process, back up and send it only so far as we need to provide, secure and support the service and the features you ask for. We do not use it for anything else unless our privacy notice says so or you give separate permission.
You must have the right, and a lawful basis, to add what you add, including information about other people. Do not add sensitive information about another person unless you have a clear lawful reason and the service’s schedule allows it.
If you share something using a link or sharing feature, you decide what it contains and who receives it. Turning a link off cannot take back copies someone has already saved.
A4. Acceptable use
You must not use any Fat Genie service to:
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights;
- upload malicious code or deliberately interfere with a service;
- try to get into an account, area or information you are not allowed to access;
- scrape, probe or reverse engineer a service, except where the law expressly allows it; or
- harass, discriminate against or unlawfully monitor anyone.
A5. AI-assisted features
AI-assisted features can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important before you rely on it, publish it or act on it. An AI result is not confirmed fact just because it appears in a service.
No Fat Genie service gives legal, financial, tax, medical, veterinary, employment or other regulated professional advice, unless its schedule expressly says so. None of our services uses AI to make a decision about you, on its own, that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
A6. Paid services
Paid services are optional. Before you pay, you will be shown the price, what is included, how often it renews and how to cancel. Prices are in pounds. Fat Genie is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. Payment is taken by Stripe.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
Starting straight away. Before you pay, we ask you to request that the service starts immediately. You still have the statutory right to cancel described below.
Your statutory right to cancel. If you buy a paid service online, you generally have 14 days, starting the day after your purchase is confirmed, to cancel for any reason. Because you asked for the service to start straight away, we may charge a proportionate amount for what you used before you cancelled. To cancel, use the service’s billing page, or email info@fatgenie.co.uk or write to Fat Genie at The Better Growth Company Ltd, Apartment 1107 9 Churchyard Row, London, England, SE11 4FF, saying which service you are cancelling and giving the email address on your account. You may use this wording, but you do not have to: “To The Better Growth Company Ltd trading as Fat Genie: I give notice that I cancel my contract for [service]. Email address used for the account: [email]. Ordered on: [date]. Name: [name]. Date: [date].”
Cancelling after 14 days. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep the paid service until then. We do not refund part of a period you have already paid for, unless the law requires it.
Price changes. The price you pay is fixed for the period you have paid for. We may change a price from your next renewal if our costs of providing the service go up (including hosting, payment processing and AI provider costs) or tax rules change. We will email you at least 14 days before a new price applies to you. If you do not accept it, you can cancel before it takes effect and you will not be charged the new price.
Limits. Reaching a monthly limit never creates an extra charge. The feature waits until the limit resets or you change plan.
Your records. Cancelling or not paying never stops you from seeing, downloading or deleting your own records.
A7. Changes to our services and to these terms
We may change, replace or withdraw features, and change these terms, where there is a valid reason: to meet a legal requirement, to keep a service safe and secure, to fix a fault, to reflect a change in the service or the cost of providing it, or to improve it. We will email the address on your account about any change that matters to you at least 14 days before it applies, unless the law or security requires a faster change. If you pay for a service and a change makes it materially worse for you, you can cancel before the change takes effect. If you keep using a free service after a change takes effect, the changed terms apply to you.
Every version of these terms has a version number and a date. From version 1.0, every past version is kept permanently at fatgenie.co.uk/legal. We record which version you accepted and when.
A8. Suspending and ending access
You can stop using a service at any time.
We may suspend or end your access for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, a security risk or unlawful use. We will tell you why, unless the law or security prevents it, and you can ask us to reconsider. We may withdraw a service altogether. If we withdraw a paid service, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and refund anything you have paid for the period after it ends.
Where practicable, we will give you the chance to download your records before we close an account, unless security or the law prevents it.
A9. Intellectual property
The Fat Genie name and branding, the software, design and our own content are owned by or licensed to us. These terms do not transfer ownership of anything you add, and do not give you ownership of anything of ours.
A10. Our responsibility
We will provide our services with reasonable care and skill. We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or of our negligence. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for any business or commercial loss, or for a delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit or exclude.
A11. Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email info@fatgenie.co.uk or write to Fat Genie at The Better Growth Company Ltd, Apartment 1107 9 Churchyard Row, London, England, SE11 4FF, or use our contact page. Tell us which service, what happened and what outcome you want.
We do not agree to use an alternative-dispute-resolution scheme, but if a consumer complaint reaches deadlock we will give you any information about one that the law requires at that time. This does not affect any right you have to complain to a council, landlord, energy supplier, regulator, ombudsman or other body about an underlying matter.
A12. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory protections of the law where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or of the part of the United Kingdom where you live.
Part B: service schedules
Schedule B1. Fat Genie (fatgenie.co.uk)
The Fat Genie website helps you find the right Fat Genie service. It is free.
Fat Genie member accounts are by invitation only. A member account shows which services you can use. It does not give you access to any service’s records: each service keeps its own accounts and records. If you forget your password, the account owner can create a one-time reset link that expires after 30 minutes.
Schedule B2. CareerCaptain
What it is. CareerCaptain helps you keep a record of your work, study, projects, learning and people; bring in LinkedIn history; make CVs and profiles; share selected work; prepare for meetings; get writing help; review a week; and think through career decisions.
Plans. CareerCaptain has Free, Pro and Executive plans. Pro costs £12 a month or £120 a year. Executive costs £24 a month or £240 a year. The current monthly limits are shown on the Pricing page. Monthly limits reset on the first day of each calendar month, including on annual plans. A failed attempt can count towards a limit if the work had already started. You can cancel from the Billing page. Part A6 applies.
Files and photos. What CareerCaptain reads from a file or photo helps you find and use it later. It does not replace the original. If you choose to remove the original, keep your own copy if you might need it.
Share links. A link that always shows the latest version changes when you change the underlying information. A saved-version link keeps showing that version until it expires or you turn it off.
Campus access. A university, college, students’ union or similar organisation may pay for your access through CareerCaptain Campus under its own agreement with us. That access depends on your membership of that organisation and may change or end with it. It is not a personal subscription. Campus membership does not give the organisation’s staff access to your individual records, files, questions or generated work, and ending it does not transfer your records to anyone.
CareerCaptain supports your judgement. It does not guarantee any job, promotion, pay or other outcome.
Schedule B3. Backroom
What it is. Backroom is a workspace for creators and creator-led businesses: brand, offers, campaigns, money, contacts and tasks.
Paid services. Creating a Backroom account does not start a paid subscription. Part A6 applies only if a checkout clearly offers you one.
Sensitive information. Do not enter special-category information about another person (such as health, sex life, sexual orientation, biometric data or political opinions) unless you have documented both a lawful basis and an applicable condition under Articles 6 and 9 of the UK GDPR. Backroom is not designed to hold it.
Customer data you enter: processing terms. Where we process personal data you enter about your own contacts, customers or collaborators solely on your behalf, you are the controller and we are your processor. The processing is the hosting, organising, calculating and displaying of that data for as long as your account is open, or any longer period we agree. The people concerned may include your contacts, customers, collaborators and audience members, and the data may include names, identifiers, platform handles and ordinary commercial interactions. Your instructions are your use and settings of Backroom and any further written instructions we agree. We will:
- process that data only on your documented instructions, unless the law requires otherwise;
- keep it confidential and apply appropriate security measures;
- use other processors only to deliver the service, under equivalent data-protection obligations;
- give reasonable help with data-subject requests, security, breach response and impact assessments, taking into account the nature of the processing;
- delete or return it when your account ends, subject to legal requirements and backup cycles; and
- give you the information reasonably needed to show we meet these obligations, and allow proportionate audits where Article 28 of the UK GDPR requires them.
Brand context. An approved Brand Board is only used in an AI feature if you choose it. Saving generated work records how it was produced; it does not make it approved or verified.
Schedule B4. TellDoug
What it is. TellDoug helps you collect, organise and understand your pet’s records.
Not veterinary care. TellDoug does not diagnose, prescribe, choose treatment, decide insurance cover or replace a vet. If your pet may need urgent care, contact a vet or emergency vet straight away.
TellDoug Plus. TellDoug Plus costs £5 a month or £50 a year. It is not open yet, and nothing is charged until it opens. Free accounts cover 1 pet and 2 Ask TellDoug answers a month. Plus covers up to 6 pets in one household and 100 Ask TellDoug answers a month. Answers reset on the first day of each calendar month. These limits apply to every account from the day Plus opens, and we will email you before then. Paying never changes what TellDoug will or will not say about your pet’s health. Part A6 applies.
Sharing. Where a sharing feature is available, access is limited to the records, purpose and time you choose, and you can revoke it.
Schedule B5. Paperwork Foundry
What it is. Foundry is a private review workspace for authorised users. It is not open to the public. Use it only through an account and workspace you are authorised to use.
What a review means. Foundry records what was checked, what was missing, the results and a person’s review decision. A Foundry result does not itself authorise publication, deployment, filing or any other action. That authority stays with your organisation’s decision-maker.
You are responsible for having the right and a lawful basis to provide the material you upload. Use only what the review needs.
Schedule B6. Fat Genie Help: Housing Support Navigator and Casefile
Housing Support Navigator. This gives general housing information, guides you to the right help and saves your progress. It does not make council decisions, decide your legal rights, provide legal representation, award benefits or guarantee any outcome. If you are in immediate danger, call 999. The public help and emergency pages can be used without an account and by anyone, whatever their age. Accounts are for people aged 18 or over. Do not enter health, domestic abuse, criminal record, substance use, religion or gender identity information: the service does not currently ask for it. Housing law and local procedures change, so check anything time-sensitive with your council or a qualified adviser.
Casefile. Casefile helps you organise documents and dates and prepare a domestic energy complaint in Great Britain. It is a controlled test and is not open to new customer purchases. Any price or checkout you see in a test is not an offer to sell. You review and send any correspondence yourself. Casefile is not a law firm, does not act as your representative, does not conduct litigation and does not give legal advice on your case. A prepared pack does not prove that a document is true, that a supplier broke a rule, or that an ombudsman will uphold your complaint. Keep your own copies of anything you may need after Casefile’s retention period ends. If paid access opens, Part A6 applies and you must be 18 or over.
